Akamai Web Security Analytics (WSA) turns the challenge of analyzing raw data — such as payloads, triggered security controls, and request metadata — into an opportunity for streamlined, insightful security analysis.

Many organizations, however, struggle to hire and retain security experts. At the same time, attacks continue to increase in complexity.

To help customers scale their security expertise, Akamai launched AI Event Explainer.

What is AI Event Explainer?

AI Event Explainer is an assistant that’s integrated directly into the WSA user interface. It transforms complex event data into concise, clear summaries.

Analysts no longer need to manually interpret raw payloads or decode intricate rules. Instead, by using the new AI icon (✨) in the Sample view, an analyst can immediately get the following insights:

  • What the request was trying to achieve

  • Why specific security controls were triggered

  • The likely attack technique being used

For example, rather than diving into raw logs, analysts now gain instant context about events to optimize their workflows (Figure).

How it works

A click of the AI icon (✨) processes the request and response details securely, including payload, headers, and triggered rules, using an Akamai-hosted large language model (LLM). All customer data remains within Akamai’s environment to ensure secure analysis.

Within moments, the AI generates a short, natural-language explanation that is displayed directly in the Sample view.

Additionally, users can provide feedback (thumbs-up/thumbs-down) to refine and improve accuracy over time.

Why it matters

AI Event Explainer improves:

  • The speed of investigations: Saving time by reducing the need to interpret complex logs during triage.

  • Accessibility: Making intricate data more accessible to less-experienced analysts.

  • Confidence: Providing a clear starting point for investigations while retaining raw data for deeper analysis

Who benefits?

AI Event Explainer supports analysts across all experience levels, including:

  • Associate analysts, who can quickly understand attack details without having deep expertise in security rules

  • Senior analysts, who can streamline triage processes, allowing more focus on complex investigations

Make more confident decisions with Akamai

Akamai is dedicated to empowering your team with innovative solutions to simplify web security operations while maintaining robust data security. The AI Event Explainer is designed to help your team achieve faster, more confident decision-making.

Get started today

You can start using AI Event Explainer in WSA today. Click the ✨ icon in the Sample view to experience faster, clearer insights during your investigations. You can also share feedback within the tool to continuously refine and improve its functionality.
